Which platform do you need

A code always belongs to exactly one platform, so check where the person actually plays before you buy.

The region of the code has to match the account

This is the most common reason a code cannot be redeemed: the code has to come from the same region as the account. A code bought in Germany works on an account set to region DE with euro as its currency; on an account created in another country the system rejects it. The PlayStation Store and the Nintendo eShop both work this way.

So before buying a gift, it is worth asking which country the recipient’s account was set up in.

How to redeem the code

Every platform has its own top-up screen, but the steps are the same everywhere: sign in, open the section for credit or voucher codes, enter the code. The balance is available immediately and does not expire — it can sit there until the next sale.
